Last August – hot on the heels of our 2025 entry – I decided to grab an earlybird entry to 2026’s Straight 8 filmmaking contest and attempt the challenge for a third time.

Last week I found out that our film – ‘The Quest’ – made the Top 25 selection and will be screening at the BFI Imax in London on Saturday May 23rd on the biggest screen in the UK!

I am absolutely flabbergasted, and I can’t think the incredible cast and crew who volunteered their time one chaotic weekend – and my family who volunteered their time across many other dates – to assemble this mini-epic.

I’ll share the film on here when it’s launched, there’ll be an online premiere following the Imax screening on Saturday May 30th HERE, and I’m also planning on arranging a Glossop screening.

More about this little film in due course, all I’ll say is, I really tried to make a Straight 8 that felt like it should be on an Imax screen, and, I can’t believe it’s actually going to be!

This was my third time entering Straight 8, and my first time selected, and I highly recommend all filmmakers give the contest a go, as it’s such an incredible learning experience, and no matter how your film comes out I feel like you’ll be incredibly proud of the effort and teamwork that goes into trying to make one!
